Basic concepts of educational administration

Understanding educational administration Etymologically, the word administration comes from the Latin “ad” meaning to and “ministrare” which according to Gei (1992) means serving, helping, supporting, achieving goals so that they are actually achieved. Furthermore, Siagian (1986) defines administration as the whole process of cooperation between two or more people based on a certain rationale to achieve predetermined goals. Nurhadi (1983) defines administration as an activity or a series of activities in the form of a collaborative business management process of a group of people who are involved in an organization to achieve common goals that have been previously determined to be effective and efficient. To broaden the understanding of the meaning of education administration, some limitations or definitions are put forward, namely:

1) Ngalim Purwanto (2010: 4): Educational administration is the entire process of mobilizing and integrating all things, personal, spiritual and material, which are related to the achievement of educational goals.

2) Daryanto (2011: 12): Educational administration is the act of coordinating human behavior in education so that existing resources can be arranged as well as possible so that educational goals can be achieved productively.

3) Syaiful Sagala (2009: 39): Educational administration is a process or event of coordinating a number of interdependent activities of people and groups, both activities within the government and educational units in achieving educational goals.

4) Dadang Suhardan (2010: 30): Educational administration is a discipline that studies cooperative efforts by involving all available resources to develop the potential of students in achieving educational goals effectively and efficiently.

5) Djam’an Satori (in Uhar Suharsaputra, 2010: 12): education administration can be interpreted as the whole process of cooperation by utilizing all available and appropriate personnel and material resources to achieve the educational goals that have been set effectively and efficiently. So the word “administration” can literally be interpreted as an activity or effort to help, serve, direct or regulate all activities in achieving a goal.
