Instagram Stories Content Duration Will Be Extended To 60 Seconds?

Instagram seems to really want to shift its focus to video content. After releasing Reels, it’s now the turn of Stories which will reportedly be overhauled. Instagram is reportedly testing longer Stories duration, which is 60 seconds or 1 minute. So far, the maximum duration of an upload of video content on Instagram Stories is limited to 15 seconds. If a user uploads a video with a duration of more than 15 seconds, the video will be divided into several segments. According to a Social Media Today report, some users are getting a trial to extend the duration of Instagram Stories. Those who are “lucky” will get a pop-up notification explaining that the duration of the Stories will be extended to 60 seconds.
“Introducing longer Stories. Videos up to 60 seconds long will no longer be split into segments,” reads the pop-up notification. This feature leak was also uploaded by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi who quite often reveals new social media features.

“The ability to create longer Stories is highly demanded by our community. We’re excited to test 60-second Stories, so users can create and watch Stories with minimal distraction,” explains Instagram. Furthermore, Instagram said that 60-second Stories had only been tested on a handful of users. If this feature has been released, there is a possibility that Reels content can be uploaded in its entirety to Instagram Stories.

Reels have a duration range of 15-30 seconds, longer than Stories. So, so far, Reels uploaded to Stories will be truncated if they are longer than 15 seconds. It’s not just the length of Instagram Stories that has been extended. Instagram is also reportedly testing video uploads as Reels.

So, whatever video will be uploaded to Instagram, no matter if it is vertical or horizontal, the video will be uploaded as “Reels”. This leak was revealed by another feature leaker with the account handle @hammodoh1.

Video is one of the focuses of Instagram which is currently being matured. Some time ago, Instagram CEO, Adam Mosseri revealed that Instagram no longer wants to be called just a photo sharing application.

One of the reasons is the fierce competition with other platforms, especially TikTok. “Because to be honest, the competition is getting tougher nowadays, TikTok is huge, YouTube is even bigger, and there are many other newbies,” Mosseri admitted Mosseri promised to provide an even more interesting video experience in the future. “Full screen, immersive, entertaining and mobile-first videos,” added Mosseri.
