Huawei launches its latest processor

Huawei is expected to expand its lineup of high-end HiSilicon Kirin chipsets called the Kirin 9010, which is also an upgrade from the Kirin 9000 and Kirin 9000E.

Citing NDTV, Sunday (3/1/2021), Kirin 9010 will be based on technology based on 3 nanometers (3nm). Unlike the previous two chipsets that use 5nm technology.

The release of Huawei’s new chipset, in response to maintaining its chipset business globally. As is known, Huawei was given US sanctions which caused the company to experience a supply shortage.

A recent report from Counterpoint Research also shows that the Chinese company did not receive any growth in the last quarter of 2020. They only managed to maintain a 12 percent share of the worldwide smartphone chipset market.

Huawei’s stagnant growth has at least had an impact on the chipset from Taiwan, MediaTek. The company has surpassed Qualcomm as the world’s largest chipset supplier for the first time.

Last year, Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, indicated that it would stop making flagship chips due to pressure from the US.

“This year may be the last year for Huawei’s Kirin high-end chips,” Yu explained in August 2020.

Therefore, the latest rumors regarding the Kirin 9100 chipset are allegedly the last step to surpass Qualcomm Snapdragon and Samsung Exynos.

The move to the 3nm process is also called a competitive and significant step, considering that both competing chipsets come with 5nm technology.

For information, last year Huawei presented the HiSilicon Kirin 9000 as its last flagship chipset. This processor debuted on the Huawei Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro Plus in October. As for the Kirin 9000R, it is present on the Mate 40.

Sources have now revealed the first details about the company’s next flagship SoC which it claims will be called the Kirin 9010. The SoC is expected to be manufactured in a 3nm process.

If everything goes according to plan, then the company will successfully switch to 3nm process technology and release a new SoC in the fourth quarter of 2021. The chipset will debut in the Huawei Mate 50.

Giz China reports, prior to releasing the 5nm Kirin 9000 SoC, there were reports the Mate 40 might be the last Huawei flagship to use Kirin. But sources believe that is not the case. The Huawei P50 phone is also believed to feature the Kirin 9000.

If Huawei succeeds, Qualcomm and Samsung could also switch to 3nm processes before the end of the year. Apple is expected to prepare a 3nm SoC that will be produced by TSMC, but it won’t appear until 2022.

Guess the Fate of Huawei and Honor in 2022

A new estimate by research firm TrendForce says that independent company Honor, which is no longer associated with Huawei, will only be able to occupy 2% of the global smartphone market next year.

The sale of Honor will certainly hit Huawei, which is struggling to survive under the pressure of US sanctions and their aftermath. If this year analysts gave the company only 14% of the global smartphone market, then next year, the company’s share will drop to 4%. With such a result, the company will have to fight for a place in the top 10 leaders, as they struggle to get into the top five.
