Can Humans Live in Space?

If you see it in the movies, it seems like it’s really fun to live in outer space, unfortunately it’s all just fiction. But can it actually live and even create your own country in outer space? Yes! indeed the earth is the most comfortable place in the universe for us. There is oxygen, water, food and internet, our bodies can still adjust to the temperature and weather. And the earth also has a layer of the atmosphere, this layer of course protects us from many things.

But is the situation on earth the same as in outer space? From earth, outer space is pleasing to the eye but out there the situation is far more cruel than in the capital Jakarta, if we are not superhumans it is impossible for us to survive long because there is definitely no air and no oxygen in outer space, even though without oxygen we will faint in 15 seconds add another minute and a half and our lives will be lost. Not to mention the temperature that can freeze or even heat up half to death and add the gravitational force that holds it back, our bodies will float and continue to float until the end of time.

Fortunately, the experts managed to get around this problem through advanced technologies, namely by launching spacecraft and creating stations. The station’s space station is equipped with oxygen reserves as well as artificial shields that can protect its passengers from outside threats, such as harmful radiation on the station.

What is the impact of living in outer space on the human body?

Dr. Kristina Routh and the Author Team in the book Knowledge Encyclopedia Human Body explain that conditions in outer space make the human body faced with challenges that are very different from life on Earth.

“The gravity on a spacecraft orbiting Earth is less than the pull on Earth. This microgravity force makes astronauts float in space as if they were weightless,” Routh said.

Because astronauts’ bodies don’t work hard, astronauts exercise to keep their muscles and bones strong. Without specialized fitness, astronauts will lose up to 40 percent of their muscle mass in a few months.

This is the equivalent of a 30 year old muscle deteriorating to resemble an 80 year old muscle.

In fact, the muscles and bones of the astronauts who returned to Earth weakened.

“Astronauts who return to Earth have weakened muscles and may have difficulty walking,” he said.

Loss of Bone Density

Routh says for every month this microgravity force in space causes astronauts to lose up to 1 percent of their bone density. This means the inner tissue of the spongy bone becomes more fragile and tends to fracture.

“When astronaut bones don’t have to work against Earth’s gravity as they move, they become weaker and less dense. This condition is known as space osteopenia,” explains Routh.

Not only that, Routh continued, when in space astronauts grow taller. The human spine expands and stretches without the constant pressure of gravity. As a result, astronauts grow taller in space by about 3 percent.

However, this excess height will disappear within a few months after returning to earth.

On earth, the body relies on gravity to help blood and other fluids circulate through organs and tissues.

In the microgravity of space, blood is pushed up into the upper body where it floats without being pulled back.

“The upper body swelled, the face became swollen, and the legs shrunk. Blood can also press on the optic nerve of the eye, blurring vision,” Routh said.

This is where astronomers examine outer space directly, including the possibility of humans being able to live outside the earth. If you need to go for a walk, the astronauts just need to wear special clothes that function like a mini space station, even though the models also vary, although they are not sold freely in online stores. But the name is also that our living earth creatures must be more difficult in space, because going back and forth is difficult for food and water, so astronauts have to recycle their own urine and sweat for bathing and daily needs. Besides that, our bodies also experience side effects if we start to stay away from the earth for a long time, that’s why even though astronauts are in outer space, they still have to be diligent in exercising so that there will be more sophisticated technology. Let’s save the space for the dream of living in outer space while caring for and enjoying the earth while we still can.
