The Advantages of A14 Bionic, a Chip That Will Become an Iphone 12 “Kitchen Run”

Bionic is a ‘cool’ name that Apple chose to make it easy to remember.”[The processor] was called Bionic because Apple realized that names like A8 and A9 weren’t very interesting from the various chip names from competitors. This was also done by Apple for previous chipsets that added the word “Fusion”, an Apple spokesman said to The Threshold.Along with the launch of the iPad Air 4 tablet last week, Apple also introduced its newest system-on-chip (SoC), the A14 Bionic. This chipset is predicted to be the “kitchen runway” of the iPhone 12 that will be launched. Apple A14 Bionic is Apple’s most advanced chip made using a 5 nanometer (nm) fabrication process, with 11.8 billion transistors. Its performance is also claimed to be up to 40 percent higher than the previous generation.Even so, the architectural design of the A14 Bionic is still similar to the previous generation, namely a CPU with six cores (cores), consisting of two CPUs, and four power-efficient CPUs.For graphics, the A14 Bionic is supported by a four-core GPU, whose performance is claimed to be 30 percent better than the A12 Bionic, and an increase of 8 percent higher than the A13 Bionic. In the A14 Bionic, Apple also embeds a special Neural Engine processor, to process artificial intelligence (AI) which has 16 cores with performance reaching 11 trillion operations per second. This figure is more than doubled compared to the Neural Engine in the A12 Bionic SoC, with a performance of 5 trillion operations per second, and 83 percent higher than the A13 Bionic SoC which only has a performance of 6 trillion operations per second. For PC devices, Apple claims that the A14 Bionic offers twice the graphics performance compared to Windows devices.Apple’s A14 Bionic chip will reportedly also be embedded in the iPhone 12 series later. However, an AnTuTu benchmark leak recently circulated that the A14 Bionic may not be as powerful as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 Plus, which drives several Android smartphones.Benchmark screenshots were shared by gadget leaker Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) via his Twitter account. It includes a device called “iPhone 12 Pro Max” resulting in a total score of 572,333 points. This figure is lower than the Snapdragon 865 Plus phone score, which ranges from 590,000 to 610,000 points. When compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 11 Pro Max, the performance score of the iPhone 12 Pro Max is only around 47,000 points. This means that the performance increase from the A13 Bionic chipset to the A14 Bionic does not look so significant.Ice Universe then speculates that this performance score is not so high because Apple’s focus on the A14 Bionic is battery life which is claimed to be 30 percent more efficient. However, the truth of the leaked benchmark above cannot be ascertained. Apple is still developing the iPhone 12, so the final score could be different.
