Every year, WhatsApp is arguably quite diligent in producing new useful features in its application. The goal is none other than to make it easier for users to operate the WhatsApp application and complete its functions.
WhatsApp can now do things like search for specific files to manage stored data to save phone memory. Here are 5 useful features that WhatsApp released this year and can already be used by users in Indonesia.
- Advanced Search
Advanced Search is a new WhatsApp feature that was released in October 2020. This more advanced search feature is provided to make it easier for users when they want to browse files in the form of photos, videos, audio, documents, links, or GIF stickers that have been sent specifically through the messaging application. How to use it is fairly easy, users simply click the Search icon on the top right of the WhatsApp main display which is shaped like a magnifying glass.
- Disappearing Messages View Photos Temporary Messages feature in the WhatsApp (WhatsApp) application Disappearing Messages is a WhatsApp feature that can be used to automatically delete messages after seven days, starting from the time the message was sent. This feature was released in November 2020. To activate it, first open a contact, then open the personal info field of that contact. Next, scroll down until you find the “Temporary Messages” feature marked with an icon like a clock. After tapping the “Dissapearing message” feature, select the “On” option. If it is turned on, a notification will appear informing that the feature is active and will delete the message after seven days.
3. Storage Management
This feature, which was released in November 2020, can make it easier for WhatsApp users to find out what files have been received and stored in the phone’s memory. Through this feature, users can directly sort files that are not needed and can be deleted to save storage memory capacity on the cellphone. In addition, this feature will also sort documents by file size, from the largest to the smallest. Users can also preview the selected document or file before deleting it permanently. Storage Management can be accessed easily, by opening the Settings menu via the three vertical dots button on the top right, then selecting “Storage and Data”, then clicking the “Manage Storage” option.
4. Always Mute
As the name suggests, the Always Mute feature has a function to mute notifications from both group and private conversations for a period of time. This feature is present in October 2020. The Always Mute option itself replaces the mute duration which previously could only be valid for one year. Meanwhile, the other mute options are still the same, which is eight hours and a week. First of all, open WhatsApp and press (hold) the group or private conversation that you want to turn off notifications for until a checkmark appears. Then, click the icon resembling a speaker at the top right of the display and select the “Always” option. After that, click the “Ok” button to agree.
5. Group Video call
The group video call feature was released in April 2020. Through this feature, users can make video calls to up to eight people simultaneously. Previously, WhatsApp only allowed four users to make group video calls. The group video call feature can be accessed via the “Calls” tab > the “Call” button > and the “New group call” menu. In this menu, users can choose who they want to invite to join the group video call together. After selecting participants, the user (host) simply clicks on the “Call” icon to initiate a voice or video call.
