Video uploads on TikTok are limited to a maximum of 3 minutes. But now, through an update, TikTok has extended the duration of videos that can be uploaded to a maximum of 5 minutes.
The duration of the video upload of up to 5 minutes can already be tried by a number of TikTok users, including in Indonesia. If the feature is already available, users will get a notification to let them know that the duration of the video could be longer.
The notification reads “Introducing 5 minutes video. You can now upload videos up to 5 minutes long!”.
It should be noted, this up to 5 minutes duration only applies if TikTok users upload video content from the phone gallery, not record videos directly from the app.
The increasing length of TikTok videos is apparently meant to make room for creators to present longer video content. Before rolling it out to the public,
TikTok first tested the additional video duration since August 2021.
At that time, British social media consultant Matt Navarra was one of the TikTok users who got the trial. Through her Twitter account, Navarra uploaded a screenshot containing the notification of the latest update from TikTok.
“Upload videos of up to 5 minutes via your device. Make sure you have updated TikTok to the latest version before trying this feature on the app or tiktok.com,” wrote the screenshot uploaded by Navarra.
With the increase in video duration of up to five minutes, users can now upload more varied video content, such as movie trailers or video tutorials with a longer duration.
