Intel provides a complete line of processors for laptop or PC devices. One of the newest is the 11th Gen Intel Core with the codename Tiger Lake H. Here are the specifications and features of the Intel Core Tiger Lake processor.
Intel Core Tiger Lake is the latest generation of laptop processors. This processor is built with a new architecture that is more improved from the previous generation Intel Ice Lake processor version.
Tiger Lake promises not only an increase in CPU performance but also comes with Intel’s new XE graphics. With Intel’s new Xe graphics, the Tiger Lake chip is said to be able to provide a significant improvement in graphics matters.
The Intel Tiger Lake processor has been officially released in Core i3, i5, and i7 variants. With this, vendors can choose to use the processor that best suits their device.
Intel Tiger Lake Specifications And Features
Intel’s Tiger Lake chips are built on top of the 10nm nodes introduced in last year’s Ice Lake CPUs. But this time the chip comes with more than 20 percent improved CPU capabilities, and twice as much GPU performance thanks to the new Intel Iris Xe graphics.
Just like Ice Lake, Tiger Lake laptop chips are divided into two groups, one for ultraportable laptops that offer a combination of performance and power consumption, and another for thin and light laptops that don’t require a lot of high performance.
With Tiger Lake, Intel is sticking with the same Core i7, i5, and i3 configurations. But this will vary in clock speed, graphics performance, and thermal design power (TFP).
The top variant is the Core i7-1185G7 which features a quad-core, eight-thread CPU clocked at up to 4.8GHz on one core and 4.3GHz on all cores.
With 12MB cache memory, this is the most powerful Tiger Lake CPU. It is also equipped with the most powerful Intel Xe graphics accelerator, with 96 execution units (EUs), which is almost double that of the high-end Ice Lake Iris Plus GPU, which has 64 EUs.
Meanwhile, the Core i5-1135G7 comes with a four-core, eight-core design clocked at up to 4.2GHz and a multi-core speed of 3.8GHz. This processor has 8MB cache and Intel Xe graphics supporting 80 EU.
The Core i3-1125G4 series is very similar to the Core i5, only it doesn’t have Iris Xe graphics and instead uses an Intel UHD Graphics graphics card. It also supports LPDDR4x-3733 RAM and only has speeds of 3.7GHz on one core and 3.3GHz on the other four.
The Core i3 series has a sibling called Intel Core i3-1115G4. This other variant of the Core i3 comes with 6MB of cache memory and runs up to 4.1GHz on both cores.
Graphic performance certainly cannot be separated from the spotlight. Intel Core Tiger Lake uses the integrated Intel Xe GPU. As quoted from the Toms Guide, Intel Iris XE can run the latest games with 1080p resolution and a fairly smooth frame rate.
Intel showed off a video of a person playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on an ultra-portable laptop with Iris Xe graphics. Plus games like Hitman 2, Far Cry New Dawn and Borderlands 3 are all playable at 1080p.
Intel doesn’t say what kind of graphics settings the game will run, but they do seem to provide playable graphics for games at 30 fps smoothly.
The H series Processor Chips also support DDR4 memory up to 3200Mhz and LPDDR4/x up to 4266 MHz.
Connectivity relies on Intel Killer Wi-Fi 6/6E (Gig+), allowing game fans to play their best games while downloading or streaming their favorite videos at the same time.
The performance of the integrated graphics card is 2x faster than the 10th Gen Intel Core H-Series processors. There are also 20 PCIe Gen 4.0 lanes – 16 lanes are used for the integrated Xe-LP graphics card, while 4 lanes from the CPU are used for the highest bandwidth connections with certain graphics cards, such as NVidia.
Also supported is the Thunderbolt 4 feature which can transfer data at a speed of 40GB/s, 4x faster than USB 3.1. One Thunderbolt 4 port can connect up to two DisplayPort or HDP 4K 60 Hz monitors via a compatible dock or adapter.
Such laptops won’t replace a dedicated gaming console or laptop, but they do provide a thin and light device with a bit more power and flexibility.
This processor is also said to be suitable for people who need a laptop for video or photo editing purposes while traveling.
