There is good news for Instagram users who are also active on Twitter. Starting today, Instagram is adding a link preview feature for all Instagram links shared on Twitter.
This link preview feature allows users to preview photos or videos from Instagram links shared on Twitter, directly on the Twitter timeline. Its shape is similar to the preview window of news articles shared on Twitter.
Previously, this preview feature was available on Twitter, but was removed by Twitter when Instagram was acquired by Facebook (now Meta) in 2012. Twitter then only displayed Instagram post URL links.
The news of the preview of the Instagram post returning to Twitter was announced directly by Instagram through its official Twitter account with the handle @instagram.
“(Instagram) preview on Twitter started rolling out today,” tweeted @instagram.
Twitter also announced the presence of this feature through its official account with the @TwitterSupport handle. In a tweet, Twitter said that Instagram’s link preview feature is rolling out for Twitter’s Android, iOS, and web platforms.
Prior to this feature, all Instagram links on Twitter only appeared in the form of URL text. So, Twitter users must click on the Instagram link on Twitter to find out the contents of the photos, videos, and captions in the shared link.
This is somewhat inconvenient for users who only want to see the contents of the Instagram link at a glance. Because, users who are “stupid” have to click on the Instagram link and move to the Instagram site to be able to see the contents of the post.
But now with the launch of the link preview feature, the photo or video preview window of the Instagram link automatically appears on the Twitter timeline.
In the image shared by @instagram on Twitter, this Instagram link preview window will contain the username, Instagram post type (Reels, etc), and a preview of the photo or video.
However, users still have to click on the preview window if they want to see the full content of the post, including viewing the full photo, watching Reels, as well as reading captions and viewing hashtags. Instagram’s link preview feature is not yet available for all Twitter users.
Because, when I tried it, the Instagram link shared in our tweet didn’t show the preview window, aka it still only displayed the URL text as usual. Most likely, Instagram’s link preview feature is rolling out gradually and it will take a few days for it to be available to all Twitter users. Kevin Systrom, founder and former CEO of Instagram, said that the decision was purely from him, not from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, as compiled by KompasTekno of The Verge, Thursday. Finally after 9 years, this Instagram post preview feature is back on Twitter
