Color models in graphic design

RGB (Red Greed Blue)
The RGB color model consists of three channels in producing colors, namely Red, Green, Blue. Images in RGB form work with 24 bit format and each color channel R, G, B contains 8 bits. Electronic devices (monitors, scanners, digital cameras, TVs) work with the RGB color model. So that the color that is done on electronic devices when it is going to be printed must be converted to the CMYK model. In order for the color of the printout to be the same as the color on the monitor, calibration must be carried out on the equipment used

CMYK (Cyan Magenta Yellow Black)
The CMYK color model consists of four channels in producing colors, namely Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. In general, images in CMYK format work with 32 bit format and each color channel C, M, Y, K contains 8 bits. Examples of tools that work with the CMYK color model are printer inks and offsets. The CMYK and RGB color models have different color ranges called the color gamut / color space, so the image with the CMYK model on the monitor will be dimmer when compared to the RGB model.

HSL (Hue Saturation Lightness)
HSL is a color characteristic that is defined using components H (hue), S (saturation) and L (lightness), Hue represents the value of the color pigment, and is measured in units of degrees from 0 to 360, Hue is used to classify the color red / red (0 degrees), yellow /yellow (60 degrees), green /green (120 degrees), light blue /cyan (180 degrees), blue/blue (240 degrees), and red/magenta (300 degrees). Saturation / Chroma is the degree of intensity of a color (intensity) with a value between -80 to 120 which serves to define the purity of a color, whether it tends to be dirty (grayish) or tends to be dominant (pure). The higher the percentage value, the sharper the color image, the lower the percentage, the more gray the color image will be.

Lab Color – Lightness (green – red axis) b(blue – yellow axis)
Lab (is a three-dimensional color model consisting of Luminance, which is an element to measure brightness/darkness), a is the chromatic coordinate color component which represents the color range from red to green and b is the chromatic coordinate color component which represents the blue to blue color range. Luminance has a value between 0 (the darkest) and 100 (the brightest) while for a and b it has a color value between 128 and minus 127. Lab is expressed in the form of LCH, where L (lightness), C (Chroma) and H ( hue).
