Google Meet has just arrived with a number of new backgrounds in the form of videos (moving images) that can be used during teleconferencing. There are at least two types of background videos that take different backgrounds and place settings. The two backgrounds consist of Cafe and Condo. Background Cafe carries a place like a coffee shop featuring a row of tables facing a large window. While the Condo looks like an apartment that carries a fairly modern interior design.
What’s interesting, as explained on the Google Blog, is that users can change the atmosphere displayed on the two backgrounds.
For example, the Condo background can be set so that it looks like the time of day or night. Meanwhile, the background cafe can display an atmosphere with a background of rainy, sunny, and snowy weather.
Cafe and Condo also added a series of backgrounds in the form of videos that were previously on Google Meet, ranging from Spaceship to Under the sea.
In addition to the new video background, Google Meet has also added a series of light and color filters that users can choose from to enhance the appearance of their videos during teleconferences.
These two background videos are available to all paid Google Workspace users, including G Suite Basic and Business customers, except for free Google account users. Currently, Google is rolling out this feature periodically starting last November 17 and continuing again on December 2, 2021 for certain regions. Before the two new backgrounds can be used, Google Meet users must perform a number of configurations on the Admin Console page and perform the setup steps described on this page.
