The network was officially launched in Indonesia in May 2020.
Currently, there are two telecommunications operators in Indonesia that provide 5G networks
The service providers are Telkomsel and Indosat,
The 5G cellular network, which operates for the first time, is based on IMT-2020 (International Mobile Telecommunications-2020) technology in the 2,300 MHz or 2.3 GHz frequency band.
At the inauguration, the Minister of Communication and Information (Kominfo), Johnny Gerard Plate revealed about the operation of the 5G cellular network.
The operation of the 5G cellular network is the result of the work of the government and telecommunications providers.
This is also a form of accelerating digital transformation in Indonesia.
Prior to its launch, the Ministry of Communications and Informatics together with several telecommunications operators had conducted 12 5G network trials throughout 2017 to 2020.
“One of the trials was carried out during the 2018 Asian Games. In early 2021, the Ministry of Communications and Informatics has also conducted an auction for the 2.3 GHz frequency band,” said Minister Johnny.
It is hoped that the 5G network will further encourage the advancement of Indonesia’s digital sector.
1.Using the USIM type (Universal Subscribers Identity Mobile)
USIM is the type of card used for 4G LTE networks. Users can see the physical SIM card. If there is a 4G logo or writing, you can be sure that the card is already using USIM. If not, it can be exchanged at each operator.
2. Required smartphone specifications
Not all smartphones available in Indonesia can be connected to 5G. Only Band 40 smartphones that support 5G bands are compatible with 5G internet.
This is because Band 40 works in the 2.3 GHz spectrum used by operators to deploy 5G.
3.Using a smartphone device that supports Telkomsel 5G network and services
Hendri Mulya Syam, President Director of Telkomsel at the ‘Hyper 5G Unlock The Future’ event of Telkomsel and the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemkominfo), in Solo, Thursday (3/6/2021), explained that devices that support Telkomsel 5G services are devices with technological capabilities. 5G NSA (non-standalone) at a frequency of 2,300 MHz. These devices include the Oppo Reno5 5G, Huawei Mate 40, Vivo X60 and Vivo X60 Pro. However, the brand will continue to grow.
